How Do You Get Started in Internet Marketing?

My motto is “Keep it simple and have fun.” And yes, making money on the Internet is FUN! It can also be done on a shoe string, and that’s the way I’ve always approached it. After all, we’re in it to make money, not waste it!

But there are some tools that are absolutely necessary to successfully market online. An auto-responder is one of those tools.

Why do you need an auto-responder? Well, we all know that “The Money is in the List”. Your auto-responder is where you keep and grow your list and it gives you the tools to stay in touch with that list. There are free auto-responders out there, but it’s too important to your business to not invest in a quality company that understands the needs of online Marketers.

I use Aweber. It’s the service recommended to me by my Mentor and has proven to be an invaluable tool in helping me build my online business. You’re first month is only $1 and it costs about $19 per month after that. They also provide excellent support and training.

You’re going to need a web site which means a Domain Name and Hosting. I prefer and highly recommend Brain Host. Again, excellent support and training, which comes in handy if you’re technically challenged like me!

If you’ve never set up a blog/web site before, and have no idea how to go about it, I suggest you head on over to The WordPress Classroom. You can join for FREE and take advantage of the easy to follow videos to set up your site(s). Of course you can upgrade if and when you choose, and I suggest you do!

Another source for FREE training on building a site, as well as monetizing sites, is Ed Dale’s “The Challenge”. I first took The Challenge last Summer and built my first Niche site, Best Anti Snoring Pillows. I have gone on to build more sites since then and have several in the works.

The point is, you can start an Internet Marketing business with very little risk or expense, and the rewards have no limits!

As for me, I’ve chosen niche sites as my business model and I’ve invested in extensive training over the course of the last year and a half. If you’re interested in more information and in depth training on building your own niche sites, I highly recommend you sign up to attend Marcus Campbell’s webinars. He offers TONS of great content in his free webinars and his courses are second to none!

And for the very best step by step training on the basics of building an Internet Marketing business, regardless of your business model, The New Economy Franchising Course with Chad Hamzeh and Mark Mootershead is, by far, the best I’ve ever found!

Email Marketing Tips

New to Email Marketing?

Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of your list…

When, what and how often to email your list:

Everyone has their own way of nurturing their list but a good starting point is to set your follow up series to send out once every 3-7 days

Broadcast to your list, usually a paid offer, 1-2X per week

For paid offers focus on the middle of the month when people have more discretionary income available

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday also tend to be the best days

Earlier in the morning as well as late afternoon are good times of day

If you have a really good offer that will benefit your subscribers then set it up to go out to your list once a month

When you promote a paid offer resist the temptation to use swipe files (pre-written emails provideds by the creator). How many times have you received emails from multiple marketers all using the same text. That’s no way to stand out and it screams “I’ve never used this product myself”

Don’t use deceptive headlines. I don’t like them, you don’t like them, enough said!

Make sure your headline represents the content of your email. If your title says “You’ve got a commission” then there should be a commission waiting, don’t you think?

Remember WIIFM (what’s in it for me). Be sure to clearly communicate the main benefit of your email

Keep your subject lines short whenever possible. Five words or 50-60 characters

Write a “Do this/Get this” headline…Watch the Video, Make Money

Test, test, test your headlines. Write three different headlines for your offer. Send 2 out the first day and the third the next day. Then see which one received the most opens and drop the one that received the fewest. Write a new one to replace it and test again next month…repeat

You can test your headline’s EMV (emotional marketing value) with a free headline analyzer

Using words like (free, promo, buy) too much can alert spam filters so don’t over use them

Ask your subscribers to white list your address by adding it to their address book

Don’t forget your call to action! Tell your reader what you want them to do and why they should do it (WIIFM)!

I’ve been busy building a new site and revamping my old sites to make them more attractive to Google since the “Panda” update changed the way they rank sites.

When it comes to building niche sites, there several models to choose from. There are adsense sites, review sites, affiliate sites and sites that are a combination of two or more. I’ve built them all!

For the past couple weeks I’ve been working on building a new niche site DownloadTheseFree.com. It’s cute, child friendly and there are some really FUN FREE offers there. I’m still adding offers to it and I’ll also update the site seasonally. I plan to drive traffic with PPC (pay per click) so I can start to see results right away.

This site is monetized with CPA (Cost per action) offers and I had a lot of fun working on it. My friend Marj Wyatt recommended a great WordPress theme, Flexibility, which allows you to easily customize your site in a variety of ways. The bad news is that this AMAZING course is closed. The good news is that it will re-open in the future as a membership site. How great is that?

When I first started out in Internet Marketing I was overloaded with information, odds are you can relate! I looked for someone, something, to show me what to do…step by step. Freebie Trading and CPA Offers

What is Freebie Trading?

Freebie Trading is is done on an IFW Site – Incentivized Freebie Website.

There are several Forums on the internet, dedicated to Freebie Trading, where people work together to make money with freebie websites. A good Forum, like Calistyle, will provide all the information you need to get started right way. It is free to join and you’ll find video tutorials that cover all the basics, a community of friendly, helpful traders for support, as well as proof that this is a legitimate money making opportunity.

Project Payday introduces people to freebie trading, shows them the basics and directs them to forums where they can get started. I joined Project Payday as an experiment to see if it would work, why not! It was easy enough to get started and I made money right away. I did freebie trading for about two years and made an average of $1,000 per month, part time, from my home computer. There were others who were making from $100 to $2000 a month or more at that time depending on the amount of time and effort they choose to put into it.

Freebie Trading works like this: After registering on the forum, viewing the Tutorials and choosing a Mentor you sign up on a freebie website that advertises products and services (CPA Offers), using a referral link provided by your Mentor. These are known as IFW sites. You try 1 or 2 of the offers on a trial basis for free or a very low cost. The cost depends on which offers you choose. Your “Trader” pays once you complete the offer requirements. They make a profit, you make a profit, the site makes a profit.

Once you have completed several sites, and feel you have run out of offers you are willing to do, you can start to send referrals to the site(s) yourself and get paid for each referral that completes the offer requirements. There’s more money to be made here because you can send as many referrals to the site(s) as you want and collect the “Prize” (usually cash) over and over again. The forum will show you how to get your own referrals. It takes a little time and effort to get established and build a reputation at first, but a good Mentor will be there to help you.

You will not get rich with freebie trading. But, if you are looking for a Hobby to make some extra money or if you want to start a business and earn a few hundred dollars or even an extra $1000-$2000 a month, then Freebie Trading could be just what you are looking for!
